Gainesville, Fla. (AP) – Glover began his college led career as Florida’s youngest newsman. He is quickly becoming the most important of the team.
Glover scored 7 points, Quintony Johnson added 13 and No. 24, Marshall-73-67 on Friday night. Beat it with an eight-point halftime deficit to beat.
It was the Gators’ fourth consecutive win and this was their first chance this season in which they went on a break.
Glover has played a major role in the winning series. After scoring just two points in the team’s first four games, he has 40 runs in the last four.
“We knew it would be a matter of time before he broke down,” coach Mike White said.
Glover scored the Gators (6-2) 10 points in the first half in the first half. Without it, Florida would have been in a hole even bigger than that. The Gators went 33-25 at the break after missing all 10 shots from the 3-point range and failing to even get an assist.
Still, they almost gave it up in the last minute. Florida had a 13-point lead with a couple more minutes to play, but Marshall (2-4) hit a 3-pointer, scored with a turnover and converted a three-point play to create a two-point play. , 69-67.
Andrew Nembhard replied with a step back floater in the lane with 20 seconds left. Donte Bassett blocked a shot from the other end, and Noah Locke closed it with a pair of free throws.
“It was huge,” Bassett said. “It felt good.”
Iran Bennett led Marshall with 16 points. JS Nason Williams added 15 and Taiwanese Kinsey added 14.
“I’ve said it all, we’re a developing team,” Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni said. “This will help us grow. It’s not the way I want it. I want to do it with ‘W’, but we learned some valuable things about people.”
The 5-foot-11 Glover scored 5 of 9 shots to go with four free throws and two rebounds. The latest addition to White’s top-10 recruiting class, Glover credits his rise to being more comfortable at this level.
Now he is making more impact than fellow newcomers Scott Lewis, Jason Jitobah, Trey Mannan and Omar Payne.
“He’s been really confident because I was a little intimidated by the start of the season, because I didn’t want to go out there and make mistakes and hurt the team,” Glover said.
“Now I’m playing with more confidence, and it’s starting to help me and the team, too.”
